I bought this game because it was part of a sale recently and I needed something to pass the time. I’m on a 15” MBP Retina 2.7ghz i7, 16gb ram. I can run the game smoothly with only a minor slowdown here and there with the graphics set to normal. I can go all the way up to ultra but in the benchmark that gets me around 8fps. Even with the graphics setting lowered, the graphics are still phenomenal. I was pretty surprised by them and was ‘wowed’ at a couple of points throughout the game. For all the reviews stating that its too laggy & choppy to even play, I wonder how old or underpowered their systems are. If you’ve got a well-spec’d mac, you shouldn’t have any issue. I would imagine trying to run this on an integrated chip might introduce some problems.
As far as the gameplay, its really good. I played through on the normal difficulty; it remained challenging, there were a couple points where I got stuck or just flat couldn’t complete the mission the way I wanted to, but I was always able to find an alternate route/method. I haven’t started a replay yet, but I’m definitely going to. It seems like the replay value in this is incredibly high…there are so many ways to go through each mission, you can ball out and gun down every person in every mission or you can go through the entire game only killing targets. I haven’t made an account yet to access the contracts mode but that also seems like it will add value.
There are plenty of points where the game breaks immersion due to some slightly ‘stupid’ AI. For instance, in one mission you witness a court case and have the chance to take the defendant’s costume as a disguise…the dude is scrawny, loud, crazy and has long hair. You step into the courtroom for him bald, silent and built like a statue and nobody even bats an eye. Guards on patrol don’t notice when all the other guards they’ve been crossing paths with all day are slowly disappearing. If you knock somebody out and then take their disguise right before a guard shows up, the guard will see a body on the ground missing all of its clothes, you standing there wearing those close with your suit laying on the ground and they don’t even try to put two and two together. etc etc etc… None of it really ‘breaks’ the game, but there were definitely a few points that I had to laugh to myself about how ridiculous it seeemed.
Also worth noting, I paired my PS4 controller up and it worked without a hitch, no configuration required. There are some weird quirks with it though. For instance, if you’re taking cover and tap X to switch to a new cover, it will also draw whatever weapon you have selected or drop whatever item you’re carrying if its already out. Likewise, if you’re taking cover and you use the d-pad & then X to switch from a weapon to the extra object you’re carrying, it will actually drop the object rather than just pulling it out. That got to be pretty annoying in a lot of cases, in some cases I had to replay difficult missions because of it. The right trigger is also VERY sensitive when trying to do the slow squeeze for sniper rifles.
All in all, this is a class A game and definitely worth the purchase. The minor nitpicks are definitely outweighed by the fun of the game.
